Siberian Garlic 2010

I just pulled up the garlic we planted last year and was amazed at how well it turned out.  This was planted around mid October 2009 from individual cloves we broke off from Siberian bulbs we bought at a local farmer’s market.  We will defiantly be planting more this fall to be harvested in the summer of 2011.

Once picked, garlic needs to be cured by hanging it to dry in a dark cool area for at least a couple weeks.  It should not be left in the sun to dry.  Hang it where it can swing freely as this will prevent any mold from forming.  Also be careful not to bump the bulbs on hard surfaces as garlic will bruise easily.

  1. OMG that looks good. Here in Edmonton I leave my garlic in the soil for two years to get that size of bulb. I’ll try Siberian this fall, too and keep you posted next year.

  2. DH @plangarden once planted 400 head of garlic on our former 5,000 sqft lot (includes house). Sad to say most fell victim to white onion rot, a scourge down here in Calif. Will try on our new prop – though I think we probably will have brought fungus w/ us via our tools & compost. Really hard to manage.

We love the hardnecks and your pics are beautiful. Enjoy enjoy enjoy! :)
